    Vedic Astrology and Health Issues

The ancient seers of India understood the close relationship between the Laws of Nature and Mankind; how the environment affects man’s health, profession, living situation, architecture, etc. As a result of this natural connection, the ancients developed a system of health called Ayurveda. Human ailments can be linked to the outcome of the gravitational pulls exerted by the planets through rotation and revolution which is why Astrology has such a close relationship with Ayurveda. Astrology is used as a diagnostic tool for prevention as well as treatment of diseases.

Vedic Astrology is the study of the subtle energies emanating from the sky upon people, plants, animals and the earth, thereby influencing the activities on the earth. They influence the human physical body, mind, emotions and psychology. Similarly, it affects the animal life and quality of plant life. Last, but not the least, the country’s life — the politics, the economics and the rise and fall is all determined by the planetary rays influencing the earthly conditions. Although the Western thinking has come to embrace this profound and essential truth with the discovery of Quantum Physics, this understanding of the nature of existence is the basis of Vedic knowledge postulated thousands of years ago, and is the basis of understanding the health, disease and treatment by Ayurveda or the eastern medicine.

Certain influences exerted on our body by planets and stars are tendencies which can be dealt with by human beings positively or negatively, depending on the impulses they receive. Astrology indicates the body pattern which consists of three tendencies called Tridoshas. They are Vata, Pitta and Kapha, which are equal to gas, bile and phlegm. Vata means motion, and Pitta is connected with energy. Kapha is connected with inactivity.

The great Sushrutha says that “just as the Sun, the Moon and wind are necessary for the regular functioning of this world, so also are vata, pitta and kapha necessary for the regulation of health in the human body”. These three qualities, motion, energy and inertia work along the same lines in the cosmos. When the planets are in disharmony in the sky, the balance in the human body between Vata, Pitta and Kapha changes. There are three groups of planets which support Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Therefore constellations representing Vata can bring diseases related to Vata if they are afflicted. The Sun mostly governs Pitta, and very little of Vata. Moon governs Vata.
Thus Ayurveda is a holistic form of treatment which is meant to try to harmonize the body, mind and spirit.

According to Astrology, the Sun plays a dominant role in bringing health and ill health. The radiation of the electromagnetic forces from the Sun creates various nerve impulses which results in sensations, thoughts, and emotional responses. The arrangements of the planets in the sky creates what are called Yogas and Duryogas, which creates a patterns of events in the lives of human beings.

The science of Medical Astrology deals with innumerable diseases, however, and unless the science goes beyond medical knowledge, there is less change for improvement of the health of the people. The doctors should treat human beings differently than only what they read in the books about a disease. It means to say that they have to understand the characteristic of the sick person’s individuality, his psychological and emotional state, his power of resistance, his sensitivity, and his past life and the potential for the future. Then, if the doctor understands and treats the whole person and not just the symptoms, treatment is going to be powerful.
If the outcome of an illness is to be predicted, not by the probabilities, but by precise analysis of the psychological nature of the individual, then it is only the horoscope that can provide this personality. By studying the horoscope, the physician will know the character of the patient, whether his will is weak, whether he is negative or emotional, etc. The horoscope also shows the latent tendencies for diseases and the root of the problem. When the planetary aspects are stirred into action, the Dasa and Bhukti disposition give the key to understanding the potential of the disease.

The key to the mystery of the human body lies deeply in physiology. The vital force which sustains the life comes into the body from the fourth dimension and this vitalitism is not understood by the modern doctors because they have no instrument to measure them.
This instrument, used in the East, is the Horoscope. The metabolism of the body is of twelve types, the clue for which is in the horoscope. The twelve houses in the horoscope give twelve types of metabolism, examples of which will be discussed.

Planets and Body Parts – Indicators of Organs and Disease

Because of that, Cancer rising will have low vitality and want to be easy going, not really want to work hard. When the Sun is afflicted in Cancer or the rising sign is Cancer with malefic planets like Saturn, or malefic planets are in Cancer irrespective of the rising sign, there would be varying degrees of weakness in the stomach region and a predisposition toward indigestion, flatulence, dropsy, sclerosis, etc. Cancer people are fond of food.
