THE SIX ENEMIES OF MAN – The 6th House

    Shad Ripus Vedic Astrology

People are worried and troubled because of are their ways, habits  and experiences. Many times man under delusion and ignorance of the law of Karma does not realize what is the real cause of his problems in life because his reasoning is incorrect and made under the shadow of Maya. It is inherently misleading though one might be content about his own thought process which stems from the inner environment he has framed till now. This does not mean that one should stop thinking and lose faith and hope. Trying to learn the truth of life and his mission on this earthly sojourn from others experiences might not always be the right way of learning. To understand perfection man himself has to move towards perfection in a quest for self realization. How does one move towards perfection and deal with his current inner and outer fields of karmic influence ? As the scriptures say, one should first get rid of and conquer the Shad Ripus. The six enemies of man since the world existed. These six ripus (sins) are Lust, Anger, Greed, Infatuation, Intoxication and Jealousy. Until one gets rid of them to a major degree, one can neither be happy nor think perfectly. Only saints, sages and ascended beings in wisdom who have conquered these six fundamental and primary vices can think calmly, neutrally and perfectly. A genuine Jyotishi can evaluate these weaknesses in a Vedic chart by looking at the 6th bhava, its bhavesha, (lord) karaka, (significator) and judge their dignity in the horoscope.  The Karaka or significator of the sixth house in vedic astrology are Mars and Saturn. The natural sign of the Zodiac being Virgo and its ruler Mercury. Mars is a Tamsic Graha whose element is Agni or fire. It becomes very important to control the passion and energy of Mars which if unchecked can lead to creating these six weakness which stem mostly from anger and lust.  Saturn the second karaka of the sixth bhava rules discipline, control and restrictions which are instrumental to desist and harness ones actions to control the abrupt and impulsive thought and action taken under the influence of Mars. The 12th house of Moksha or Liberation is the opposite of the 6th house. This is where we reach the destination of overcoming the six sins by controlled thoughts and actions and higher spiritual living through sadhana and meditation. Our real goal in life is to ascend the Shad Ripus and clean our Karma. It is not solely to strive for name, fame, wealth, power and riches nor seek ultimate pleasure in sexual gratification. These forces of delusion create our Shad Ripus instead of transcending them.
